Madelena (She/Her)  is a Tasmanian born indie-pop artist Madelena grew up on a beautiful bush block south of Nipaluna with space to create and explore. She learnt many instruments as a child and always had a love for singing and writing songs. This love of singing lead her on to study contemporary voice at the University of Tasmania’s Conservatorium of Music.  

Since launching her debut single “My Lightest Shade” in 2016, Madelena has played at many Tasmanian festivals and events including Falls Festival, Cygnet Folk Festival, Taste of Tasmania, Nayri Niara Good Spirit Festival, Dark Mofo, Festival of Voices, Beaker Street, and at the Woodford Folk Festival, “Lets Talk about it” concert with Paul Kelly. 

A career highlight for Madelena was a the mezzo soprano role in A Tasmanian Requiem (2018). This role in combination with her work supporting community events through music and teaching upcoming musicians led to being recognised as a 2018 Tasmanian Young Achiever as a finalist in the Arts category and winning the Young Indigenous Achievement Award.   

Madelena’s Aboriginal family lines are to the Yanyuwa and Gangalidda people in the Gulf Country.  

She is very passionate about the arts and believes music and song play an important role in community connection, cohesion and bringing people together.
